FC Barcelona has proposed a €20 million ‘commitment to buy’ offer for outcast Manchester City player Joao Cancelo, who has been excluded from Pep Guardiola’s plans since the January transfer window of 2023. Cancelo has been on loan at Bayern Munich but has expressed his intention to return to and continue his career at Barcelona. However, Manchester City would need Barcelona to cover Cancelo’s entire loan fee and wages for the 2024/25 season for them to consider such a low valuation.
Despite Cancelo’s desire to return to Barcelona, interest in the player has been reported from Serie A and the Saudi Pro League if Barcelona is unable to meet Manchester City’s terms. Cancelo has a wealth of experience at the highest levels of European football, making 154 appearances for Manchester City and winning seven trophies. Barcelona has been facing financial difficulties this summer, leading to them being unable to meet the £50 million release clause for Bernardo Silva or other deals involving Manchester City.
Barcelona’s financial troubles have hindered their ability to make offers for Cancelo and other players, despite their admiration for the Manchester City squad. Cancelo’s future remains uncertain as Barcelona considers their options and potential suitors look to make offers for the experienced right-back.
