Manchester City is undergoing a trio of coaching changes within their Academy system as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Elite Development Squad has seen significant success in recent years, winning back-to-back Premier League 2 titles in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, making them the first team to achieve three consecutive PL2 titles under the guidance of Brian Barry-Murphy. However, Barry-Murphy will be leaving his role ahead of the new season.

Ben Wilkinson has been appointed as the new Elite Development Squad Lead Coach, taking over from Barry-Murphy. Wilkinson previously led Manchester City’s Under-18s team to regional and national titles in the last two seasons, as well as guiding the team to FA Youth Cup victory. Oliver Reiß is expected to join Manchester City as the new head coach of the under-18s, coming from Hertha BSC after 17 years with the club.

The revamped coaching structure within Manchester City’s Academy system is part of the club’s ongoing efforts to maintain their success at the youth level. With Wilkinson and Reiß taking on new roles within the Academy, the club is aiming to continue developing young talent and achieving further success in the Premier League’s leading Academy division. The changes highlight City’s commitment to nurturing talent and building a strong foundation for the future.
