Nicolo Barella was contacted by Manchester City during his rise in football with Inter and Italy. Manchester City reportedly showed interest in signing him after the UEFA Champions League final between the two clubs in 2023.
Despite Manchester City inquiring about Barella as a potential signing, they ended up addressing their midfield needs with the signings of Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes. Coach Luigi De Biagio, who worked with Barella in the Italy Under-21s team, recommended Manchester City to sign him when he was just 18 years old, emphasizing his potential for improvement.
Although Manchester City did not pursue Barella as a signing, he eventually joined Inter Milan in 2019 and became a key player in their Serie A title-winning campaign. The 27-year-old midfielder played a crucial role in Inter’s success, registering 44 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing seven assists. Despite their Serie A triumph, Inter was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League at the last-16 stage by Atletico Madrid.
