Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, are looking to strengthen a specific area within their team after facing numerous injuries this season.
Throughout the current season, Pep Guardiola’s squad has been plagued by injuries to key players, including Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in August and November respectively.
De Bruyne, the Belgian midfielder, suffered a hamstring injury that required surgery and will keep him out until January 2024, while Haaland, the Norwegian striker, suffered a stress fracture in his foot, causing him to be sidelined until the new year.
In an effort to reduce their reliance on medical staff, Manchester City is now looking to hire a physical performance lead for their first-team setup, according to reports.
MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, in the latest edition of the Man City Notebook, reported that the club is actively seeking to strengthen their medical department by recruiting a new physical performance lead.
Recent injuries to Kyle Walker and John Stones during the international break have added to Manchester City’s injury concerns. However, Stones’ injury is not as serious as initially thought, and he has returned to training and matchday squads.
With a packed schedule ahead, including an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and a UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, Manchester City faces a busy period with eight matches in 25 days.
