Manchester City have a history of signing players from other English clubs, but they have not made any such moves in the current summer transfer window. However, it has been revealed that the Citizens considered making a move for Sander Berge before he recently transferred to Fulham. Berge, who joined Fulham for £25m, was also seen as a backup option for City’s midfield, with advocates including Erling Haaland and Vincent Kompany recommending him to Pep Guardiola.
Berge, who previously played for Sheffield United and Burnley, could have been a valuable squad player for City due to his Premier League experience and impressive statistics from last season. With more progressive passes and tackles/interceptions than any other Burnley player, Berge was seen as a suitable backup option for Rodri by some. While City ultimately brought Ilkay Gundogan back from Barcelona, Berge’s potential move to the club highlights the areas they may be looking to strengthen in their squad.
