Barcelona is demanding more than €100m for Manchester City target Ronald Araujo, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. City is among the three clubs to have made offers for the Uruguayan international, with the other two being Manchester United and Newcastle. Despite interest from these clubs, Mundo Deportivo also mentioned Bayern Munich and Chelsea as potential suitors for Araujo.
Rio Ferdinand praised Araujo back in December, suggesting that the defender has the potential to be a world-class player. However, he questioned why Araujo would want to join Manchester United, citing the competition for places in the team. City, on the other hand, are unlikely to make a move for Araujo due to their current squad depth in the centre-back position, with five players already in the squad.
With Guardiola having five centre-backs in his squad, including Ruben Dias and John Stones, City is unlikely to spend a substantial amount on Araujo. The high price tag set by Barcelona is one factor that makes City reluctant to pursue his signature. It remains to be seen if any of City’s current centre-backs would need to leave before they consider making a move for Araujo.
