Manchester City may face competition from Chelsea for the Norwegian international Oscar Bobb, who made 26 appearances under manager Pep Guardiola last season. Former City Academy scout Joe Shields is reportedly pushing for his current team to sign Bobb, as Chelsea’s Director of Professional Football and Scouting is said to be a fan of the 21-year-old.
To keep Bobb at the club, Guardiola may need to show him that he is a key part of the team’s plans for next season by giving him playing time in friendlies and league games. Chelsea have also been linked with another City player, James McAtee, who recently returned from a loan spell at Sheffield United. Despite interest from Chelsea, it would be surprising if City allowed either player to leave this summer.
The success of Cole Palmer at Chelsea may influence the London club’s decision to target Bobb and McAtee. It remains to be seen if Guardiola will be willing to meet Bobb’s reported desire for more playing time, as he has shown in the past that he is open to letting unhappy players leave the club. Despite Chelsea’s interest, it is uncertain whether City will allow either player to move to Stamford Bridge this transfer window.
