Manchester City are considering Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella as a potential replacement for the injured Rodri. The English tabloid, Daily Star, reports that the 27-year-old is the preferred target for City if they decide to make a move in the January transfer window. Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury, prompting the search for a suitable replacement.
Barella recently signed a new five-year contract with Inter, making him a costly option for Manchester City. The Daily Star report suggests that it would cost City at least £75m to secure Barella’s services. Although Barella is a top choice, City are also considering other alternatives, including Martin Zubimendi, Adam Wharton, and Ederson as potential replacements for Rodri.
Despite the injury setback, Guardiola has expressed confidence in his current squad’s ability to cope without Rodri. The manager has vowed to find a solution to the absence of the key midfielder, emphasizing the performances of other players like Kovacic, Rico, and Bernardo Silva. While City may look to the transfer market for reinforcements, Guardiola believes that there are players within the club who are capable of stepping up in Rodri’s absence.
