Manchester City are reportedly targeting Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as a replacement for the injured Rodri. The Premier League champions are said to be preparing to make a move for the 25-year-old Spanish international during the January transfer window. Although there are obstacles in the way, City are determined to bring Zubimendi to the Etihad Stadium.
Zubimendi has previously rejected offers from Arsenal and Liverpool, despite the Reds coming close to signing him in the summer transfer window. The midfielder ultimately decided to stay at Real Sociedad, citing discomfort and noise surrounding the potential move. Despite his €60m release clause, City may have an opportunity to negotiate a deal if Zubimendi remains open to a transfer.
While City may have the financial means to acquire Zubimendi, convincing the player to leave Real Sociedad could be a challenge. The midfielder’s decision to stay at his current club earlier in the year suggests that City will need to work hard to persuade him to make the move. However, with Rodri’s injury leaving a gap in the squad, City are eager to secure Zubimendi as soon as possible.
