Manchester City are considering a move to buy Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as a potential replacement for the injured Rodri. Zubimendi has a release clause of €60m in his contract, and City are weighing up whether to trigger it. The player rejected a switch to Liverpool in the summer, but there is still a possibility he could move in January, with both Liverpool and City vying for his signature. Arsenal, who were also interested in Zubimendi, have seemingly shifted their focus to another player.
In addition to Zubimendi, City are considering other midfielders as potential options to replace Rodri. Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella, Atalanta’s Ederson, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are all being looked at by the Premier League champions. Zubimendi did impress when he replaced Rodri in a match between Spain and England, showing his potential as a suitable replacement for the injured City star. Rodri’s injury, confirmed to be a ligament injury to his right knee, is expected to keep him out for an extended period, potentially ending his season.
With Rodri’s injury leaving a gap in Manchester City’s midfield, the club is considering various options for a replacement, including Zubimendi. While Arsenal has shifted their focus away from Zubimendi, City will face competition from Liverpool if they decide to trigger the player’s release clause. Rodri’s injury is expected to keep him out for an extended period, leading to the need for City to find a suitable replacement in the midfield.
