Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Julian Alvarez’s transfer from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid will go ahead, despite doubts raised by the collapse of Samu Omoridion’s transfer to Chelsea. Alvarez is currently in Madrid for his medical, with the deal set to be finalized in the coming days. Atletico and Chelsea are now working on finding solutions for the transfer.

It has been reported that City was offered Joao Felix on loan during negotiations for Alvarez, but they turned down the chance to sign him. However, Chelsea is now in talks to sign the Portuguese international on a permanent deal, with Atletico asking for a fee of around €50m. This potential move could see Felix playing in England this season instead of returning to Atletico.

With Alvarez’s imminent departure, City is now looking to sign a replacement before the transfer deadline on August 30th. Manager Pep Guardiola has indicated that they may need a backup striker for Erling Haaland, who will not be able to play every game due to a hectic schedule. Guardiola has stated that they are considering bringing in another forward to provide cover for Haaland during the upcoming season.
