Former Manchester City player and manager Stuart Pearce believes that RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo would be a big success if he were to make a switch to the Etihad under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. Olmo, who played a key role in Spain’s success at Euro 2024, has been linked to the Premier League champions, with reports suggesting that Leipzig are open to selling him for a fee similar to his now-expired €60m release clause.
While both Manchester City and Chelsea have shown interest in Olmo, Barcelona are currently the frontrunners to secure the 26-year-old’s services. However, Barcelona have had an offer rejected for Olmo and may struggle to match his asking price without add-ons. Their pursuit of Olmo could also be affected by their interest in his international teammate, Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
Pep Guardiola has stated that Manchester City will only look to sign new players if some are sold first. Guardiola’s comments suggest that City may not make any further signings this summer unless players leave the club. City will monitor the situation and assess their transfer activity accordingly as the summer progresses.
