River Plate General Secretary Stefano Di Carlo has confirmed that Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri will not stay at the Argentinian club beyond the January transfer window. City paid £12.5m to sign the teenager at the start of the year before loaning him back to River Plate for a year. Despite hopes of extending his stay at the club, Echeverri will be leaving for Manchester City at the end of December.

Echeverri has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in 30 appearances for River Plate this season. While his performance may not be spectacular, the fact that the club is keen to keep him suggests they see potential for him to excel in the future. City could use extra options in the forward areas, with Echeverri usually deployed as a No.10 but also able to play out wide.

City may be looking to add another striker in the upcoming transfer window, with Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi reportedly being tracked. Echeverri will provide additional depth for the team, possibly filling in as part of City’s front three. While it remains to be seen if Echeverri is ready for the Premier League based on his numbers, River Plate’s desire to keep him indicates they believe he has the potential to succeed.
