Riyad Mahrez revealed that he was close to signing for Arsenal in 2016 before ultimately joining Manchester City in 2018. He expressed frustration at Leicester blocking his move and believes he lost two years at the highest level by not making the switch sooner. Despite this, Mahrez went on to have a successful career at City, winning numerous trophies including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three Carabao Cups, the Community Shield, and the Champions League.

Mahrez’s successor at Manchester City, Savinho, has been performing well and drawing comparisons to the Algerian winger. While Mahrez acknowledges the similarities between the two players, it remains to be seen if Savinho will have the same level of success as him. Mahrez contributed significantly to City’s achievements during his time at the club, consistently scoring double figures in goals across all five seasons he spent with the team.

The Algerian international’s career trajectory could have been different had he joined Arsenal earlier, but ultimately, things worked out for him at Manchester City. Despite the initial frustration of Leicester blocking his move, Mahrez went on to have a successful spell at City, winning multiple trophies and establishing himself as a key player in the team. Savinho now looks set to follow in his footsteps, with the potential to continue the legacy left by Mahrez at the Etihad Stadium.
