Manchester City are closely monitoring Mikel Arteta’s contract situation at Arsenal, as they are reportedly interested in appointing him as manager if Pep Guardiola leaves. Arteta’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire in 2025, but the club is looking to secure his future to prevent him from leaving. The Spaniard has been at Arsenal for four and a half years and has impressed with his team’s performance in recent seasons.
While there are no concrete reports suggesting Guardiola will leave City soon, the club is aware of the need to have contingency plans in place. Guardiola has just over a year remaining on his current deal and City understand that they may not be able to retain him indefinitely. Arteta, who previously served as City’s assistant manager, is seen as a potential successor to Guardiola, although it remains to be seen if this is a realistic possibility.
Arteta has a close connection with City, having worked under Guardiola, but all signs currently point to him signing a contract extension with Arsenal instead of returning to the Etihad as manager. While City and Barcelona are said to be admirers of Arteta, for now he seems committed to continuing his work with Arsenal.
