Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is disappointed with the Football Association’s decision to schedule the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on a Saturday instead of a Sunday. Guardiola believes that having one less day to recover from their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid, which is on the preceding Wednesday, could have a significant impact on the team.
Guardiola voiced his frustration at the discrepancy in preparation time between City and Real Madrid. While Real Madrid will have nine days to prepare for the first leg at the Bernabeu, City will have to play three games in that period, including the crucial FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
The grueling schedule ahead poses a threat to City’s hopes of winning the treble this season. With seven games scheduled in the next 21 days, including matches against top teams like Arsenal and Chelsea, there will be little time for rest and recovery. This tight schedule leaves City vulnerable to injuries, with key players like Kyle Walker and John Stones already on the treatment table.
Furthermore, the lack of rest between matches increases the risk of fatigue and muscular injuries for the players. Guardiola may be forced to rely on a smaller squad and distribute minutes among a larger group of players, which could further exacerbate the fitness problems within the team.
While the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea is fast approaching, Guardiola and his team are facing a challenging period ahead with multiple competitions still in play. The demanding schedule will test City’s depth and resilience as they strive to compete on all fronts.
