Manchester City is reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, with hopes that one of his close friends will persuade him to move to the Etihad. Olmo has faced City four times in the Champions League, with injuries causing him to miss four additional matches against the club. Despite this, he has made a strong impression in games against City, such as picking up an assist in a 6-3 defeat for Leipzig. The 26-year-old, who previously played for Barcelona at youth level, joined Leipzig in 2020 and has since made 148 appearances, scoring 29 goals and providing 34 assists.

City is competing with Barcelona for Olmo’s signature, and reports suggest that City could use Josko Gvardiol’s close relationship with Olmo to facilitate a deal. While there have been discussions regarding a transfer, there are no concrete signals that City is willing to trigger Olmo’s €60million release clause. However, it is believed that Olmo is likely to leave Leipzig in the summer, with multiple parties interested in his services.

Should City lose Kevin De Bruyne or Bernardo Silva this summer, their interest in Olmo may intensify. Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona, while De Bruyne is reportedly attracting interest from Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer (MLS). De Bruyne is said to be interested in a fresh challenge in MLS, with reports indicating that San Diego FC is eager to sign him as their marquee player when they join the league in 2025. Discussions are expected to take place between City and De Bruyne at the end of the season regarding his future.
