Manchester City have identified Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as a potential summer transfer target, according to Football Insider.

Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled to keep pace with a relentless Arsenal side this season, currently sitting five points adrift of the leaders.

Furthermore, the Spaniard is having to give consideration to how his midfield contingent may look in 2023-24 due to the uncertainty over a number of players.

Ilkay Gundogan has less than four months remaining on his contract, while Bernardo Silva is known to be open to taking on a new challenge.

Nevertheless, City have the financial firepower to make a noteworthy replacement if required, and it appears that they are ready to join the race for a sought-after talent.

As per the report, Arsenal are another side to place Mac Allister, who has been hailed as a ‘stunning‘ player by his manager Roberto De Zerbi, on their list of potential additions in the summer.

The Seagulls have set a £70m price tag on his shoulders, and he is thought to be ‘ready to go’ to a bigger club. Brighton have the option to extend his deal by another year, with his current contract set to expire in 2025.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that Brighton would look to receive in the region of £70m if they were to allow their most prized asset to depart ahead of 2023.

Elsewhere, Football Transfers report that City may turn to Adrien Rabiot as a potential successor to Ilkay Gundogan.

Gundogan’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June, with the German’s future still unclear despite talks over a new deal taking place. The 32-year-old will have been at City for seven seasons at that point.

Barcelona are interested in landing Gundogan on a free, and should he decide to call time on a glittering career in Manchester, Guardiola’s side could look to Juventus and Rabiot.
