Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that forward Erling Haaland is close to full fitness after being substituted at half-time in a recent match due to multiple injuries. Guardiola mentioned that Haaland has shown improvement in his fitness over the past few days and may play a few minutes in the upcoming friendly against Chelsea, although he will not start the match.
Haaland has struggled with injuries over the past year, missing a total of 14 matches in the 2023/24 season due to muscular problems and a foot injury. Despite this, it is noted that Haaland’s injury record should not classify him as injury-prone, as the seven and a half weeks he was sidelined last December was the longest of his professional career.
Manchester City are expected to have several key players back in training, including Haaland, for the Community Shield match against Manchester United. Guardiola has acknowledged that the team is working to regain fitness after many first-team players returned late from international competitions like Euro 2024 and the Copa America.
