Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola is a fan of Anthony Gordon as Everton continue to fight to keep the youngster at Goodison Park this summer.

Gordon joined Everton’s academy from rivals Liverpool in 2012 before making his professional debut for the club in December 2017.

After spending the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan with Championship outfit Preston North End, Gordon returned to Everton and has since developed into an important player under Frank Lampard.

The attacker contributed to seven goals in 40 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions last season, including an assist in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea in December last year.

Gordon has since been handed the No.10 shirt at Everton and has operated as a false nine in their opening two Premier League matches against Chelsea and Aston Villa due to the injury sustained to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Everton youngster has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Chelsea leading the charge to sign the 21-year-old right now.

Recent reports claims that the Blues have seen a £45 million bid rejected for the attacking midfielder, with Everton’s valuation set at £50 million.

According to a report from The Times, Guardiola is an admirer of the Everton starlet. It is not clear whether there is any interest from Manchester City in making a move in this window.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Deffo the agents using our name. No way some random Everton bum gets linked to Chelsea for £50M and us all of a sudden. It’s too easy to do nowadays as people will report anything.”
