Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have already raised £232M through player sales in 2022, sitting on a net transfer profit of £122M.

There isn’t a trophy for “winning the transfer window,” which is perhaps just as well for those clubs trying to catch Manchester City as the Premier League champions have already set a new standard for getting business done this summer.

Ranging from established players to academy and CFG fringes, the club has done a marvelous job regaining some value while many of their rivals continue to struggle to negotiate ins and outs.

Raheem Sterling’s £47.5m move to Chelsea as well as the £45m and £32m deal that saw Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko leave the Etihad for Arsenal, is the latest example of City being able to trade players out for a significant fee having already recruited a replacement without breaking the bank to do so.

While the Sterling, Jesus and Zinchenko deals have generated the bulk of the incoming funds, City have somehow been able to raise £43.5m by offloading five players who have never appeared in the Premier League for Guardiola’s team.

Gavin Bazunu (£15m, Southampton), Romeo Lavia (£12m, Southampton), Pedro Porro (£7.2m, Sporting CP), Darko Gyabi (£5m, Leeds United), Kou Itakura (£4.3m, Dortmund) have all left City for significant fees this summer, and it all adds up.

According to James Ducker writting for Daily Telegraph, Manchester City have already raised £232M through player sales in 2022, sitting on a net transfer profit of £122M.

James Ducker adds that even if a £50m left back comes in, they’ll still be in line to make a net profit of £72m to £90m in the 2 windows this year.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
