Manchester City may be forced to exit the English Premier League if they lose their legal battle with the league governing body over the alleged breach of financial rules.
The Cityzens found themselves in the midst of a legal battle with the Premier League after they were charged for breaking 115 rules. While waiting for the court trial to start in November this year, the Premier League champions have started legal proceedings against the league, hoping to put an end to the Associated Party Transaction Rules.
They argued that the rules have discriminated against ownership from the Middle East, as they were put in place after the Saudi Investment Fund took over Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, Sportskeeda reported that the Manchester City may decide to rejoin the European Super League if they lose their legal battle and get demoted to a lower league by the governing body in the English Premier league.
Presently, only two Spanish teams: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, are committed to the European Super League. Manchester City may be the first English team to join the La Liga giants in making the ESL a reality.
It’s Frustrating – Manchester City Chairman Speaks About The English Premier League Allegation Of Financial Crime
The Man City Chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak in an interview with the BBC described the 115 charges against the Cityzens as frustrating, particularly for the fans base and everyone associated with the club.
According to him, everyone wants the legal process to be fast, but there is no option than to follow the normal procedure.
“The referencing is always frustrating. I feel for our fanbase and everyone associated with the club to have these charges constantly referenced. It’s taking longer than anyone hoped for, but there is a process we have to go through. I’ve always repeated, let’s be judged by the facts and not by claims and counterclaims,” he said.
