Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says the Premier League leaders “deserved” their victory at Everton after a “much better” second-half performance.
Everton as well as many rival fans were left furious that VAR failed to award a penalty for a seemingly obvious handball from Rodri late in their game on Saturday night.
Guidance from the Premier League clarified after the match that the VAR team did not think there was conclusive evidence that the ball hit Rodri more in the red area of the arm, than the green.
It is understood VAR official Chris Kavanagh didn’t feel there was enough “conclusive evidence” to reverse the decision.
Offside did not appear to be part of the original decision-making process. However, Guardiola pointed out Richarlison’s position in the build-up.
“It was offside,” the City boss told Sky Sports post-match. “VAR looked and the action was offside.
“I didn’t see the VAR. If they say penalty, it’s a penalty. No penalty, then no penalty. I didn’t see the image so I don’t have time.”
These Guardiola’s comments were shared on twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty attention from the club supporters.
