Chris Sutton has observed something intriguing about Manchester City forward Erling Haaland during his short appearance in the match against Burnley this week.
After being sidelined with an ankle injury for a number of weeks, the 23-year-old made his comeback during the second half of City’s 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite only being on the field for 20 minutes, one pundit has expressed his thoughts on the striker’s performance.
In his weekly column for BBC Sport, where he discussed all the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Sutton commented on Haaland’s second-half appearance against Burnley on Wednesday.
He noted, “City have got Haaland back from injury and even though he had his boots on the wrong feet against Burnley on Wednesday, it is just a matter of time before he is back among the goals.”
“He reminded me a bit of my time at Chelsea, when I was like Bambi on ice in front of goal, but once he is back up to speed it is going to be a very different story.”
With just 19 minutes of playing time against Burnley, Haaland had eight touches of the ball and two attempts at goal, one of which was blocked and the other off target.
His return to action was also observed by the Manchester Evening News, who mentioned in their player ratings article that he “looked hungry for a goal even if not that sharp.”
Considering that Haaland had not played a competitive game since early December, it is understandable that he wouldn’t be at his best straight away.
Nevertheless, if he can avoid further injuries for the rest of the season and regain his goal-scoring form, it will greatly enhance City’s chances of reclaiming the Premier League title.
It is evident that Haaland is still returning to full fitness and needs more game time to find his rhythm again. With his track record of scoring goals, it is expected that in due course, he will be back to making a significant impact for his team.
His potential and the contribution he can make in the games ahead will be crucial for the team’s success.
