Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has delivered an update on his ongoing recovery from injury.

The Belgian international has been sidelined since the opening week of the Premier League campaign when he sustained a serious hamstring issue during his side’s match against Burnley.

The Belgium international contributed 10 goals and 31 assists across 49 appearances in all competitions last season and has been a big miss for Pep Guardiola.

In November, Guardiola said that the 32-year-old was in the “last phase” of his recovery process before he could return to training with the first-team.

However, the Guardiola did not provide any return date as he feels that it is tough to do so when it comes to such long-term injuries.

But now, De Bruyne himself has said that he could recover from injury to return to the pitch just after the New Year.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he was quizzed about when he could be fully fit after getting injured at the start of the season against Burnley.

“It’s going well, getting along. Still got a little way to go, but we’ll be there,” he said. Asked when he hopes to be back, he replied: “Hopefully something close after the New Year, if everything goes well.”

Considering the Dr Bruyne tends to truly come alive during the business end of the season as well, the fact that he could make his return during January should be music to the ears of Man City fans worldwide.

City currently find themselves second in the Premier League table, one point behind Arsenal, who went top of the pile yesterday thanks to a 1-0 victory away to Brentford.
