Jude Bellingham will have a huge decision to make in the summer transfer window as Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid prepare to fight it out for his signature.
The England international revealed that City forward Erling Haaland is still in regular contact with him, and Bellingham may use a similar method to the Norwegian striker to decide his next club.
Dortmund could demand a huge fee for their star midfielder with his contract not set to expire until 2025. Some reports have claimed he could be available for £90m, while others suggest his transfer value to sit at an eye-watering £130m.
The Daily Mail’s report gives Liverpool, City and Real a serious boost by stating Bellingham could instead leave Dortmund for just £60m.
They claim to know about a release clause in Bellingham’s contract which means he can leave for that price. However, this still needs verifying from a top source like Romano or David Ornstein.
A release clause would completely change how the hunt for Bellingham goes. Without one, there would likely be a bidding war between Liverpool, Manchester City and Real for him.
Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Bellingham earlier this season when his side faced Dortmund in the Champions League. The Spaniard told reporters: “Borussia Dortmund is the perfect place for young talent to come.
“Maybe if Jude Bellingham was in England he would go to City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham, maybe he would not get the minutes. The best thing for a young player to be better is to play minutes. He was 17 when he arrived but it was not just about his quality, how he was leading, his kicking, going to the referee.
“This guy was something special in terms of his mentality. Now he is 19 and he is already one of the captains. The quality, everybody knows it. The whole package is really good.”
It will be intriguing to see where Bellingham ends up come next summer. And it will be equally interesting to find out whether he leaves through a release clause or bidding war.
