Manchester City secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Watford in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, with goals from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes sealing the win. Despite a stunning strike from Tom Ince for Watford, the City side managed to hold on for the win. Pep Guardiola made nine changes to the starting lineup, giving opportunities to young and fringe players. Guardiola was frustrated by some decision-making from Nunes during the game, but the midfielder redeemed himself with a brilliant goal to open his account for Manchester City.
While City appeared to be in cruise control for much of the match, Guardiola was visibly frustrated by some aspects of the team’s performance. Despite a late push from Watford for an equalizer, City managed to hold on for the win and advance in the Carabao Cup. Nunes’ performance improved in the second half, satisfying Guardiola and showing his potential for the team moving forward. Overall, the victory was a solid if not spectacular performance from Manchester City in the cup competition.
