Manchester City will be without key player Rodri for the rest of the 2024/25 season due to a knee injury that has damaged his ACL. The midfielder had only made three appearances this season and missed the start of the campaign due to a hamstring issue. Despite speculation about signing Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich as a replacement, journalist Christian Falk dismissed the possibility as Palhinha is focused on asserting himself at his new club.

Guardiola mentioned the potential of signing a new midfielder in January to replace Rodri, but with Palhinha unlikely to leave Bayern so soon after joining, City may need to look elsewhere for a replacement. While discussions are ongoing, a decision on signing a new midfielder does not have to be made immediately, leaving City with time to consider their options for reinforcing their squad in January.
