Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of Lionel Messi’s father Jorge meeting with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu in an attempt to negotiate his son’s exit from the Catalan club.
Messi had told Barcelona he wants to leave and believes he has activated a clause allowing him to leave the club for free. However, Barcelona insist the clause had expired and Messi is still their player.
Initial talks over the potential departure of Lionel Messi were discussed in a 90-minute meeting with Nou Camp president Josep Bartomeu on Wednesday night.
Claimed by various sources across Spain that the President of Barcelona has told Jorge that he wants Messi to stay, as he is a key figure in Ronald Koeman’s project.
According to TyCSports, the words phrased by Jorge Messi were: “My son doesn’t want to stay here.” It is claimed that Lionel’s father remained ‘inflexible’ in his stance during initial talks.
Jorge and Bartomeu left with no agreement, and with the start of the Premier League just 10 days away, the clock is ticking.
As Per Daily Mail, Several media in Argentina, who first reported that Messi had sent a Burofax to Barcelona requesting a free-transfer, are even suggesting he is now ’90 per cent likely to stay’.
It is now expected that negotiations will continue over the coming days, following a deadlock between the two parties.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief and Man City Xtra, Many City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions on this latest update.

Clown 🤡 bartomeu won’t understand that— 𒊹︎ (@ali_szn14) September 2, 2020
Nah for real though wtf has made him change his mind if literally hours ago his dad was helping him to leave? I’m so confused but it was never gonna happen anyway— Sam 🏴 (@mcfc_sxm) September 2, 2020
Not reliable at all. There’s no way Jorge Messi flew 15 hours to Barcelona only for Leo to decide he’s staying the same day Jorge arrived 😂— #FREEMESSI 🐐 (@MJSnow25) September 2, 2020
If messi stays he will play with 50 ٪ of his capacity and maybe less. Why keeping a player who has his mind elsewhere— Karim B (@KB4000) September 2, 2020
No news yet and there is no meeting tomorrow. These are speculation. Wait for next meeting to happen— Faiz Marsad (@ajax_marsad) September 2, 2020
