Erling Haaland’s remarkable form continued as he scored a hat-trick against West Ham United for Manchester City, bringing his total to seven goals in the first three league games of the 2024/25 season. Many believe he could be on course for another record-breaking season, with discussions taking place about his place among Premier League strikers of the past. Jermaine Pennant has claimed that Haaland, while prolific, is not as good a player as Sergio Aguero or Thierry Henry in terms of all-round abilities, but there is no denying his goalscoring prowess, with 97 goals in just 102 appearances for City and 232 in 285 club appearances.
Despite being regarded as a lethal goalscorer, Haaland has room to develop other aspects of his game, with some suggesting he could improve his all-round abilities to reach the level of players like Aguero and Henry. Haaland’s ability to link up with teammates has shown signs of improvement, indicating there is still potential for growth in his game. While Pennant believes Aguero and Henry were better all-round strikers than Haaland, there is optimism that the young star could reach their level in the future.
