Manchester City will be without Rodri for the foreseeable future due to an ACL injury, and Jamie Carragher believes his absence will be felt most in the latter stages of the Champions League. City fans were disappointed by the news of Rodri’s injury, and Pep Guardiola is working on finding the best replacement for him, with Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan currently filling in. Carragher acknowledges that while City can still win the league without Rodri, his absence may be more impactful in European competitions against higher-class opposition.
Rodri’s absence will be noticeable in every game City plays until his return, as he brings a unique skill set of defending, game domination, and attacking threat. While the team has options to cover for him, Carragher suggests that City may struggle more in the Champions League without Rodri, especially in the latter stages against tougher opponents. City will need other players to step up in his absence, and there is speculation about whether the club will try to sign a replacement in January, which is not a common practice for them historically.
