Manchester City had 14 players from their first-team squad selected to represent their countries in the 2024 European Championship, more than any other Premier League side. Despite this, Jack Grealish was not chosen to play for England in the tournament. Grealish has since expressed his disappointment at being left out, citing his experience and achievements as reasons he should have been included. His City teammate Kyle Walker was also surprised by Grealish’s omission, noting that performance and merit should be the basis for selection over familiarity with the manager.
Grealish has played nine games for City this season, providing two assists, and has now been included in the latest England squad for upcoming Nations League matches. With three Premier League titles and one Champions League under his belt, Grealish feels his experience should have earned him a place in the England squad for the summer tournament. Walker emphasized the importance of merit and form in team selection, indicating a difference in opinion on the criteria used to choose players for international duty.
