Jack Grealish would have been disappointed to see England lose to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, despite not being selected for the squad. As an Englishman and former teammate of many players on the team, he would have hoped for a victory. Instead, he had to watch as Rodri won the Player of the Tournament award and his former Manchester City teammate Aymeric Laporte lifted the European Championship trophy.
Grealish had a successful period at Manchester City with Laporte, winning multiple trophies together under Pep Guardiola. Despite England’s loss, Grealish took to Instagram to praise Laporte, calling him a “great player” and expressing his admiration for his former teammate’s achievement with Spain. Spain were dominant throughout the tournament, winning all seven of their matches on their way to the title, with Laporte playing a key role in their success.
Even though Grealish may have felt disappointment as an Englishman, he put that aside to show support for Laporte and congratulate him on Spain’s victory. Grealish’s comments on Laporte’s post show his respect and admiration for a player he once shared the field with, highlighting the camaraderie and sportsmanship between the two former teammates.
