Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims City Football Group have made an offer to Lionel Messi for a 3-year contract hours after Barcelona announced his departure from the Camp Nou.

Messi’s incredibly successful stay at Barcelona has officially come to an end after it was confirmed La Liga regulations have stopped the Spanish giants being able to re-sign the Argentina international.

The 34-year-old saw his contract expire at the end of June but agreed to extend his stay at the Nou Camp by negotiating reduced terms on a new deal.

Despite wanting to remain at Barcelona, Messi has been forced to seek pastures new as he cannot be re-registered or sign the contract due to the club exceeding La Liga’s wage limit.

Reports on Thursday claimed that PSG are leading the charge for Messi, who is said to already be in negotiations with the French side and that the pair are trying to make a financial settlement.

Spanish media outlet Marca on Friday Morning reported that with Harry Kane’s deal far from done, the defending premier league champions already look to be changing their plans and turning their attention to Lionel Messi.

According to le10sport, Lionel Messi has so far received one concrete and official offer, from the City Football Group.

The report claims a three-year contract has been proposed, with the first two years with Pep Guardiola’s side and the last one will be in the US, with New York City FC, a club also owned by the City Football Group.

Pep Guardiola’s City were the first club to be linked with Messi last year when the Argentine looked to be on his way out last year, but a move failed to materialise courtesy of Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Chief and City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts and opinions.
