Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Lionel Messi has agreed a record €700million deal to join Manchester City.
Although Barcelona do not want to sell the 33-year-old this summer, their hand could be forced due to the forward having less than a year remaining on his contract.
The three clubs mentioned so far keen on Messi’s signature have been City, PSG and Inter Milan, But it’s City who are seen as major favourites by reliable Spanish journalists.
According to Record Sport, Messi has agreed financial terms on a five-year contract worth a total of €700m (£623m) that would make the Argentine the highest-paid individual in the history of the sport.
It’s an astonishing deal worth with the City Football Group that will see him spend three years in Manchester before moving to their MLS franchise, while it sounds like they’ll get round financial fair play rules by offering him an equity stake in the company too.
The real challenge will be getting Barcelona to agree to let him go. Barca’s position is the same as always and they want someone to trigger his €700m release clause to let him go, so it’s still hard to see this actually happening.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief and Man City Xtra, Many City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions on this latest update.

5 years of CFG/#ManCity with #Messi will make us the biggest brand in Football. And if he continues as a stakeholder of #CFG, that is such a clever tie-up with the #LeoMessi brand, till he divests. That is dope Mr. Ferran Soriano.👍— EmPoster (@EmpathyPositive) September 1, 2020
I know its Messi and I too excited, but stakes at CFG is just too much, imagine if other player would want a stake in CFG— Berthold Dirke (@bertholddirke) September 2, 2020
