Manchester City has received a pleasant surprise with the news that Jack Grealish is set to return from his groin injury sooner than expected.
The 28-year-old missed the 1-1 draw with Chelsea over the weekend due to the injury, causing Manchester City to lose ground in the Premier League title race. Despite Rodri’s late equalizer, the team was unable to secure the vital three points.
Prior to this draw, Manchester City had been on an impressive 11-match winning streak, but injuries have begun to take a toll on the squad.
In addition to Grealish, Josko Gvardiol was also absent from the match, and both Bernardo Silva and John Stones were only fit enough to be named as substitutes. Gvardiol is set to miss several weeks due to ankle ligament damage.
Grealish’s injury, suffered in a match against FC Copenhagen, was initially expected to keep him out for up to three weeks, causing concern for both Manchester City and the England national team.
However, manager Pep Guardiola has provided a welcome update, stating that Grealish may only be sidelined for around 10 days, much less than the initially feared three weeks to a month.
“It’s not that much or worse than we expected. So it will maybe be 10 days (out),” revealed Guardiola.
“Maybe it could be three weeks or a month, I think it’s less. So it’s a good news!”
A delay in confirming Grealish’s prognosis occurred due to a broken machine upon the team’s return from Denmark. However, the forward is now aiming to return ahead of the Manchester derby on March 3rd, with the potential to feature in matches against Bournemouth or Luton later in the month.
This news will undoubtedly be a huge relief for Manchester City and their fans, as they continue to pursue success in multiple competitions.
Grealish’s return will provide a significant boost to the squad, and Guardiola’s optimism about a quicker recovery is a promising sign for the team’s upcoming fixtures.
