Manchester City has already made several major transfers this summer, including selling Liam Delap to Ipswich Town for £15 million plus add-ons and Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £82 million. Despite these sales, City still seems intent on trimming their squad further before the start of the new season. One player who is reportedly set to leave on loan is Kalvin Phillips, with journalist Mike McGrath suggesting a season-long move to Ipswich Town could be on the cards.

Guardiola has previously praised Phillips as an “intelligent player” but seems to prefer Mateo Kovacic in midfield. Phillips, who struggled at West Ham United last season, will need to redeem himself at Ipswich Town if the loan deal is confirmed. He has the opportunity to showcase his quality under manager Kieran McKenna and potentially earn a return to the England squad after being left out of the Euro 2024 roster. It remains to be seen whether Phillips will seize this second chance and make an impact during his loan spell.
