Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has appeared to genuinely question if Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi would get in the Manchester City team.
The Argentine looks set to end his long and illustrious spell at Camp Nou after handing in a transfer request there by exercising a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for free at the end of each season.
Barcelona insist the clause had expired and Messi is still their player, and will be allowed to leave if his €700m release clause is paid in full.
Manchester City are favourites to sign Messi if he does leave the Nou Camp, and that’s a pretty exciting thought.
Mills, however, is surprisingly pessimistic about the prospect of Pep Guardiola landing his former player, who also happens to be perhaps the greatest footballer of all time.

Danny Mills was talking on talksport and pondering whether at 33-years-old the six time Ballon d’Or winner could keep up the high tempo required to keep up with the high press, saying he would rather sign Van Dijk, Lewandowski and Mbappe for €700m.
Speaking on talksport, the ex-Man City ace said: “I look at this and think, where does Messi fit into the team?
“I would get Virgil van Dijk in immediately, £200m or £250m, would Liverpool take that? They probably wouldn’t have a choice, they’d have to. Then I’d get Kevin De Bruyne, I’d take him as well for another £200m.”
“So that’s £400 or £450m gone, and then I’d be thinking it’s between Robert Lewandowski or Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe has a bit more of a resale going forward, but for an out-and-out goalscorer right now I think I’d buy Lewandowski.”
So, £700m for the greatest of all time, or for three of the best players in the world right now – what would you do?
