While the club typically makes these deals during the summer transfer window to avoid disrupting the first-team squad mid-season, they are now reportedly interested in Martin Zubimendi for a winter move. This potential transfer has sparked controversy, with pundit Ian Wright suggesting that Liverpool fans would be upset if Zubimendi joined City after turning down a move to Anfield in the previous summer.

Zubimendi, who plays for Real Sociedad and has represented Spain at the international level, rejected a move to Liverpool in the summer and opted to stay with his current club. However, with City’s need for a midfielder due to Rodri’s season-ending injury, the club may make a move for Zubimendi in January. Wright believes that such a move would not sit well with Liverpool fans, who may feel betrayed by the player joining a rival club after turning down a move to their team.
