Manchester City have a history of signing players from the top European leagues, with recent acquisitions including Savinho, Josko Gvardiol, and Jeremy Doku. While the club typically makes these deals during the summer transfer window to avoid disrupting the first-team squad mid-season, they are now reportedly interested in Martin Zubimendi for a winter move. This potential transfer has sparked controversy, with pundit Ian Wright suggesting that Liverpool fans would be upset if Zubimendi joined City after turning down a move to Anfield in the previous summer.
Zubimendi, who plays for Real Sociedad and has represented Spain at the international level, rejected a move to Liverpool in the summer and opted to stay with his current club. However, with City’s need for a midfielder due to Rodri’s season-ending injury, the club may make a move for Zubimendi in January. Wright believes that such a move would not sit well with Liverpool fans, who may feel betrayed by the player joining a rival club after turning down a move to their team.
