Paul Merson, a football pundit, has given his prediction for the upcoming Premier League clash between Manchester City and Manchester United. In their previous matches, City secured a 1-0 victory against Bournemouth away, while United suffered a 2-1 defeat against Fulham at Old Trafford.
Both teams also won their respective FA Cup games midweek and will be aiming to continue their winning streak in the league to outshine their rivals and climb up the table.
Merson, in his analysis and predictions for the weekend’s Premier League fixtures on Sportskeeda, shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated Manchester Derby.
He said: “If Rasmus Hojlund was fit, I’d have given Manchester United a chance in this game as the away side would have had a lot of pace in attack with the Danish striker playing alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.
“Now that Hojlund is out injured, I think it would be one-way traffic in favour of the home side. I actually think Manchester United are going to the Etihad Stadium in damage-limitation mode – so I’m going to be kind and go for a 3-0 home win but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a lot worse.
“I personally think Liverpool’s game against Forest is a harder one to call than this one, so I’m going for a comfortable home win.”
Merson’s prediction aligns with the general consensus that City is likely to emerge victorious in the upcoming fixture, potentially adding to their dominance over their local rivals.
With City’s strong performance in recent league games and United’s struggles, the odds seem to be in favor of Guardiola’s side on Sunday.
