Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has provided fans with an update on his fitness ahead of the upcoming derby match against rivals United.
The 32-year-old player was sidelined in a recent Premier League game against Brentford due to hamstring “niggles” as confirmed by Pep Guardiola. However, De Bruyne was included in the matchday squad for the subsequent match against Bournemouth.
De Bruyne made a triumphant return in the recent FA Cup match against Luton, where he provided four assists for Erling Haaland.
Despite concerns over his hamstring, De Bruyne feels good and is happy with his recovery post-surgery last summer. He emphasized the importance of taking care of his body to prevent further setbacks.
“I feel good,” De Bruyne said. “I think only against Brentford I was a little bit tired and I had a kick on my other hamstring. I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t risk that but I feel fine and I hope to maintain that.
“Normally I just play on but that’s mostly been my downfall before! In a way, I try to take care of myself but I also make decisions. Since I came back my hamstring for the surgery has been great so I’m very happy about that.”
He continued, “But I know if you don’t play for six months and come back you’re going to get niggles everywhere else. It’s normal and it’s fine.”
As Manchester City await their opponents in the FA Cup quarter-finals, they are gearing up to face Manchester United in the Premier League.
Guardiola is expected to provide a comprehensive fitness update in his pre-match press conference, with Jack Grealish being the latest player to suffer a muscular issue.
Manchester City’s clash against United comes amidst their impressive 18-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the derby showdown at the Etihad Stadium, as both teams look to secure a crucial victory.
De Bruyne remains optimistic about his fitness and performance on the field, acknowledging that minor setbacks are common after a lengthy absence from play.
As City prepare for a challenging run of fixtures, including cup matches and league encounters, De Bruyne’s presence and form will be crucial for the team’s success.
