A recent report has come out revealing the feelings of those close to Erling Haaland regarding the recent links to Real Madrid. It was reported almost a week ago by SPORT that Real Madrid was aiming to secure a move for Haaland alongside Kylian Mbappe by 2025. The report also mentioned that the release clause in Haaland’s deal with Manchester City, worth £150 million, was removed when Guardiola signed a contract until 2025. In January, City was privately confident of holding onto Haaland, despite interest from Real Madrid.
It was also speculated last month that Haaland would join Real Madrid if given the opportunity, and he loves vacationing in Spain, which suggests a fondness for the country. However, a recent report by The Athletic suggests that those close to Haaland have laughed off the links to Real Madrid. The report also hints that the release clause in Haaland’s contract may be closer to £100 million in the coming years.
Contract talks between Haaland and Manchester City could be complicated due to this release clause. However, the decision to leave the Etihad for Real Madrid or another club rests with Haaland. With Mbappe set to sign for Real Madrid, Haaland’s chances of extending his contract with City have increased. It is unlikely that he would consider signing with PSG, Bayern Munich, or Juventus.
Real Madrid’s potential move for Haaland might not be easy to complete, as it could lead to demands for higher salaries from other big-name stars at the club. The club’s president is focused on signing one superstar per summer, and the Sky Blues could possibly offer Haaland a pay rise and restructured buy-out clauses to secure a new deal. So, unless Florentino Perez decides it is the right time for Real Madrid to make a move for Haaland, an attempt from the club to sign him is unlikely for now.
