Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are now leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham this summer.
City are actively looking to sign at least one midfielder in the summer window because of doubts over the long-term futures of Ilkay Gundogan, whose contract is due to expire in June, and Bernardo Silva.
Bellingham is viewed by many clubs as a generational talent, and an opportunity that simply cannot be missed, should the 19 year-old become available for a price within reach over the course of the next few months.
According to ESPN journalist Rodrigo Faez, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are currently leading the race to sign arguably the most in-demand midfielder, Jude Bellingham.
The news comes hours after it was confirmed that Premier League side Liverpool have pulled out of the race to sign the youngster.
As a result, Manchester City and Real Madrid remain the only viable destinations, although it must be remembered that Borussia Dortmund still have not given up on the midfielder.
Additional reporting from Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail also states that Manchester City believe they are in a good position in regards to Jude Bellingham, and little has happened since November to change that stance.
For the moment, everyone expects Bellingham’s transfer to cost at least €150 million and if City are to complete this deal, they are expected to do so before the team depart for their preseason tour.
Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland – whom Jude Bellingham formed a strong partnership and friendship with during their time together at Borussia Dortmund – have been described as being important in convincing the player to opt for a switch to the Etihad Stadium.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@callmearchers: “Not totally sure about him to be honest, and he’ll cost so much money. Then again, signing from Dortmund has worked in the past…”
@GS_Hemm: “Let it slide. Persuade Bernardo to stay for a long time.”
@misfermo2: “We’re blowing our entire budget on 1 midfielder”
@Knight8078: “Hope he rejects us”
@JxckyMc: “I hope he rejected us tbh. Way too expensive and he’s not even a quarter of what KDB was doing in bundesliga.”
@Olanuel_1: “Use that money to give Bernardo and Gundogan a new contract and get Mac allister just leave Bellingham”
@Sheggz01: “We can’t let Bernado and Gundogan leave this summer..no one can fill their void just yet”
@Vikmen07: “I have a feeling he’ll end up staying at Dortmund for one more year”
