Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed he “doesn’t even know” when rivals Manchester City play as his team look to close the gap on the Premier League leaders.
The Reds’ 1-0 victory against West Ham United this evening piles the pressure back on Pep Guardiola’s side, who will contest the Manchester Derby tomorrow.
Neither City or Liverpool can afford to give up much ground in the forthcoming weeks, with Chelsea still trying to keep themselves in the picture.
Despite Liverpool are in the thick of the Premier League title conversation, Jurgen Klopp insists he does not know when their main rivals Man City play.
Speaking ahead of their clash against West Ham, Klopp said: “No [whether he’s thinking about putting pressure on Man City]. It’s the truth, I wouldn’t even know when City is playing to be honest, we didn’t think about it.
“We were completely here in preparation for this game. We have to win these days, especially this game we will see. If we do that and win football matches then we can put pressure on, without winning football games, no.
“I told your colleagues in the press conference yesterday, I really want to win this game today and if we lose this game everyone will be asking me ‘is the title race over?’ Sometimes your job is really easy, we just have to throw everything we have in the next game and that’s West Ham.”
There Klopp’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

Speaking after the game ad, Klopp admitted that he is interested in what occurs when Pep Guardiola’s team face Manchester United on Sunday.
‘Of course we are interested in it, but we have no influence on it,’ Klopp added.
‘We have to win the games we play. Those we do not play in we have no hand in it. Why we don’t think about it or talk about it, we just try to win our games.’
