Phil Foden has described his England team-mate Jude Bellingham as “one of the most gifted players I have ever seen” and tipped the 19-year-old to become “the best midfielder in the world, for sure”.
Manchester City reportedly want to sign the Borussia Dortmund star. He somehow managed to increase the spotlight on him this Sunday. The England midfielder was already one of the most impressive players at the World Cup, already has a legion of clubs following him and already looks destined for the very top. And yet, he’s still surprising people.
Bellingham was superb for England in their 3-0 round of 16 victory over Senegal at the 2022 World Cup on Sunday.
He assisted Jordan Henderson’s opening goal and also had a big role in Harry Kane’s second, breaking forward with the ball before laying off Foden, who played the Tottenham Hotspur captain into space.
“I don’t want to big up Jude Bellingham too much because he’s still young, but he’s one of the most gifted players I’ve ever seen,” Foden told the British broadcaster ITV after the match.
“I don’t see a weakness in his game. He’s got everything, and he’s going to be the best midfielder in the world, for sure.”
Manchester City are already pushing as hard as they can to sign Bellingham, by all accounts. The Athletic believe he’d now cost at least £130m to do so, though.
And is he really worth that? Well, at this stage – yes. £130m is starting to look like the low end of his valuation, as mad as that is, and Manchester City should probably prepare themselves to meet an even higher asking price.
Borussia Dortmund know what they’ve got here, after all. They’re not going to sell for anything shy of astronomical and this will be a record fee in one way or another.
