Pep Guardiola will use Friday afternoon’s training session to assess the latest fitness of Erling Haaland.

City host Brentford on Saturday before a five-week break for the World Cup, and Haaland is not going to Qatar as Norway failed to qualify.

However, Norway play two friendlies next week and Haaland has been selected, with their manager saying he hopes to play the striker at least once.

Haaland missed the games against Leicester City and Sevilla, and only appeared midway through the second-half of the 2-1 win over Fulham last weekend, scoring a dramatic late winner from the spot.

An unused substitute against Chelsea in midweek, Guardiola says he will wait and see how his top scorer feels before planning the team for Brentford.

“We will see, we are training this afternoon,” Guardiola said of Haaland’s availability vs Brentford. “He’s a little bit better.”

The news shared on Twitter by City Xtra attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Pep should just cut the act. We know he wouldn’t have risked paying him in the last match if he wasn’t well. Probably trying to catch Brentford off guard.”
