Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report that the club and Arsenal are battling to land the signature of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
The 22-year-old has been very impressive for Lyon over the last two seasons and Manchester City have been linked with him for some time now.
Lyon sporting director Juninho had admitted that the club could lose Houssem Aouar after Missing out on the Champions League in the 2021-22 season after a disappointing seventh-placed finish in the controversially truncated Ligue 1 campaign.
According to L’Equipe via Mirror, The Premier League duo are reportedly battling to land the central midfielder’s signature, with Italian giants Juventus also weighing up a move of their own.
The report adds City boss Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Aouar, who is believed to have an asking price of £54million.
Still uncapped at senior France level, Aouar has been in stunning form for Lyon both domestically and in Europe this season. In six Champions League games, he scored against Juventus and won a vital penalty as Lyon beat Juventus on away goals to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Friday.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief, City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
He is good and better than Kai Havertz… get him— raulmancunian (@raulmancunian) August 9, 2020
He would play in the like Gündoğan if we signed him, I’d sign him because I think he’s an amazingly talented midfielder. Only 22 with the world at his feet 🔥— JESUS 🇧🇷 (@mancityvision) August 8, 2020
Imagine a scenario next season where KDB gets injured the only natural creative midfielder would be foden…he can’t play every 2/3 days— Assist King👑 (@cityzen017) August 8, 2020
“I watched him against PSG and Juventus. best player in the Lyon team by a distance. would be a great addition to City squad,” claimed one fan.
While another asked: “Do city need to drop another £50m for a squad player? Starter for arsenal.”
A fan responded: “Next season our only midfielders will be KDB, Bernardo, Foden, Gundo, Rodri and Fernandinho with Fernandinho playing CB this season, Bernardo and Foden mainly on the wings and Gundo and Rodri more defensive. Of course we need him and no it won’t detriment the growth of Foden.”
while another tweeted: “Honestly think he’s more likely to go to Arsenal. Guaranteed game time and you don’t particularly need him.”
Could Houssem Aouar be the missing piece to complete Man City’s long-term midfield?
Aouar could be Ilkay Gundogan’s long-term replacement. Gundogan, 29, still has a few years left in his game, and like Foden, his responsibilities will surely increase when Silva leaves.
Aouar, like Gundogan, is adept at playing in central midfield, defensive midfield, and on occasion in attacking midfield.
With Phil Foden and Rodri already identified as the replacements for Silva and Fernandinho, Aouar could complete City’s future midfield trio.
