Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has hinted at a possible Etihad Stadium exit this summer with a cryptic upload to his Instagram story.
Laporte has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks as the Blues’ Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake have enjoyed bright spells.
Rumours have been circulating for a while that the Spanish international has been becoming restless in Manchester and is looking for an exit.
His current contract expires in 2025 but, having not played for City in the Premier League since the draw at Nottingham Forest, speculation has grown.
Aymeric Laporte has now thrown more doubt over his own future with a cryptic upload to his Instagram story on Wednesday afternoon.
The City centre-back is pictured in his car with the caption, “After the rain, a rainbow; after a storm, the calm; and after an end, a new beginning.”
The post shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
He is surely gone. Sad.

@topboylikewavvy: “Yeah, he is definitely leaving the club”
@L_jacko_: “He’s been great for us. if he wants to go, let him go”
@SxrgioSZN: “Feel sorry for him man, been such a good player for us but unfortunately our defence is set in stone now and he deserves to go be a starter somewhere”
@RealTalkMCFC: “Gonna be a sad day when Laporte leaves – he’s been a magnificent player for us and deserves nothing but respect”
@mcfc_robin2: “Big difference in the way he’s leaving and Cancelo did. He still looks happy in the dressing room taking pics with the team and so on. I wasn’t his biggest fan, but he was a good servant and should be applauded on his way out”
@DazzlingDias4: “wish nothing but the best for him he gave us a really good 5 years won’t be mad if he leaves”
@SHMCFC21: “I wish him luck great player has his moments but will never forget he sacrificed himself so we won the league”
@umirf1: “I actually love this guy. Don’t know if it’ll happen but hope he stays and finds a place as a starter again, cycles and all that. Don’t think there’s a defender we can sign that’s better. Akanj’s been so good but would be cool to try Stones, Dias, Laporte, Ake.”
