Some Fans have Slammed Pep Guardiola for telling the ‘biggest lie in football’ that Sergio Aguero would be “irreplaceable” for Manchester City – a statement Erling Haaland seems oblivious about given his start to life at the Etihad.
Guardiola twice claimed the Premier League champions would not be able to find someone capable of taking over the Argentine’s scoring duties. In 2019, he said: “Sergio is irreplaceable. It will be one of the toughest asks of my career to [replace him]. We have another incredible striker in Gabriel [Jesus] and maybe another one will come when Sergio leaves but he is irreplaceable.”
A teary-eyed Guardiola doubled down on that claim after City’s title triumph in 2021, saying: “We cannot replace him, we cannot.”
🗣 “He’s a special person for us.” 💙

But the early form of Erling Haaland since joining the club this summer from Borussia Dortmund may be causing the legendary manager to rethink his claims regarding Aguero’s successor.
The Norwegian striker has already scored 19 goals in 12 matches for City with many thinking he could go on to break all sorts of goal records for both the club and in the Premier League.
Aguero’s legacy in the blue side of Manchester is still intact, but early signs are showing that not even Allan Shearer’s all-time EPL top-scorer record is safe.
With Haaland proving a rather capable replacement for City legend Aguero, some fans have now poked holes into Pep’s claims after Erling Haaland’s blistering start to Premier League life.
Still cannot believe that bald man was crying on live TV saying “we cannot replace him” just to get Haaland to terrorise us even more, deserves an Oscar.
