Ahead of the FA Cup Clash between Manchester City and Tottenham, Pep Guardiola has provided an update on Erling Haaland. During his press conference, the 53-year-old revealed that Haaland took part in a full session during Manchester City’s warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi.
However, Guardiola confirmed that the trip to north London comes too soon for Haaland, stating, “Tomorrow he’s not ready but he’s close. Training camp was good and he trained here the last few days. He’s not perfect.”
Manchester City are understandably cautious about rushing Haaland back into action, given his history of recurring injuries during his time at Borussia Dortmund. The Norway international missed a total of 33 games for the German giants due to a range of different problems.
Guardiola is being extra careful to avoid any setbacks for the Manchester City No.9, as a further injury at this stage of the campaign would be devastating.
Despite his recent absence, Haaland has managed to score 19 goals in just 22 appearances this season, along with providing five assists.
Guardiola also confirmed that Manuel Akanji would miss Friday’s FA Cup clash, due to a knee injury he suffered during the third round win over Huddersfield. However, Ederson and John Stones will be part of the travelling squad for the match against Tottenham.
It’s not all bad news for Manchester City, and despite the absence of Haaland, the team will be hoping to have enough firepower to come out victorious in their clash against Tottenham.
The updates provided by Guardiola offer insight into the status of key players and the careful approach being taken to ensure their well-being and readiness for key matches.
